BDG - An initiative of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation

Background information

The Business Development Gateway is a component of the Private Sector Competitiveness Programme (PSCP). With this integrated programme the Government of Tanzania aims to make the Tanzanian private sector more competitive and capable to compete.

The PSCP consists of three interventions:

  1. 1. To create a conducive environment for and improve government services to the private sector through the BEST programme (Business Environment Strengthening for Tanzania).
  2. To improve access to financial services for small and medium-sized companies through the Financial Sector Deepening Trust.
  3. To increase the competitiveness of Tanzanian enterprises through the Cluster Competitiveness Programme, the Matching Grants Programme and the Business Development Gateway.

The PBZ is the key partner for the BDG program in Zanzibar. TCCIATCCIA's mission is to strengthen the private sector in Tanzania by promoting and assisting businessmen and businesswomen in their efforts to succeed. The TCCIA seeks to provide effective business representation and advocacy by lobbying for a good and ideal business climate in the country. It also aims at providing its members with quality services which includes business information, business promotional events and counselling services.

Small Industries Development Organisation SIDO
SIDO logoSIDO has long-term experience in delivering business support to small and medium-sized enterprises in Tanzania. SIDO had a wide ride of services, ranging from business training and consultancy to support in application of new and improved technology and financial services. With its countrywide network of offices, SIDO is the representative of the Business Development Gateway in mainland Tanzania. The regional SIDO office is the place for entrepreneurs to receive information about the Gateway and to get help when applying to the Business Plan Competition or the Business Diagnostic Programme. SIDO is also an important partner for training and counselling.

Zanzibar National Chambers of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture ZNCCIA
ZNCCIA logoZNCCIA provides a framework for the business community in Zanzibar with outreach in all five regions. ZNCCIA is the representation office of the Business Development Gateway in Zanzibar. As such, ZNCCIA gives face-to-face information about the Gateway and its two programmes (Business Plan Competition and Business Diagnostic Programme) to interested entrepreneurs and helps entrepreneurs with applying to one of these competitions. ZNCCIA is the umbrella organisation for business trainers and consultants that are involved in the Gateway programme.
